It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

We're talking about the unit that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and earlier maintained 1,294 days unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, the ones sought by the record chasers, are all that remain for a team that has accomplished all there is.

It needed up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in the women's 50-over format, is, in truth, a compliment to the bowlers that have represented Australia over the past 50 years.

It's challenging for their batsmen to maintain a record if not provided the opportunity.

Ultimately, the outcome of Australia allowing 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy being given a platform to create her most recent brilliance.

Originally famous as the 19-year-old niece of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after Australia failed to win either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 World Cup win arrived three months after her first appearance and seven international trophies have come from 10 tries across formats.

The gritty keeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India temporarily stopped the successful run.

That loss "pushed us to rethink our standards," Healy commented earlier.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the championship match and was awarded tournament MVP. She ensured her country would not come up short.

Whether this latest epic knock topped that previous effort is debatable.

Certain people claim the reasoning behind the pressure of a final. Some might respond with the challenge that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's clear is this century was considerably tougher to see coming.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 occurred when she was the highest scorer, but this performance was preceded by six games in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've observed me in training, it's been a disappointing period because it seemed I've had no rhythm at all," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you take the field, your competitive instincts kick in and you completely engage with the contest."

Healy's fighting spirit has always been her major advantage - and an invaluable trait in replacing legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, dismissed by the young fast bowler in all three matches, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off the bowler's initial ball and from there the right-hander was in motion.

"A chance to go out there and lock in a contest with her and simply enjoy myself in that aspect, sort of got me going," said Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 deliveries - her swiftest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she flogged anything short, hitting 21 fours and three maximums.

When she was dismissed the team required another 66 at run per delivery - a manageable total now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I'm pleased we have the confidence to accomplish that now," continued Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it again but, if we do, we believe we can achieve it."

These statements will be the ultimate thing rival teams at this tournament should hear.

During the last week a feeling they will win from any position has only strengthened - this success coming after success over Pakistan by 107 runs despite struggling at 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a meeting with longtime competitors England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may likely be confirmed.

During that phase they left last year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of damaged tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the inaugural occasion at an important competition.

Such is her determination, she later said she wanted to have participated despite the injury.

However although she subsequently acknowledged those fitness problems have postponed consideration of ending her career, this tournament is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in ODI cricket and she is yet to win a global event as leader.

Success in India would bring her to the top of her final mountain.
